Demonstration planned before Parliament

The People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) will hold a protest demonstration before the Sri Lankan Parliament tomorrow, said a spokesman for the group today.
He said that about one hundred members of the ex-Tamil militant organisation will gather before the legislature tomorrow morning for the protest, despite several moves by the Sri Lankan government to compel them to call it off. The PLOTE demonstration will focus on four issues said the spokesman. They are:
- the government's silence on those who disappeared in Jaffna after the Sri Lankan army took control of the peninsula in early 1996.
- the removal of the transit camp in Vavuniya where Tamil civilians wishing to travel south are held under inhuman conditions for long months along with the removal of the draconian pass system for temporary stay in Vavuniya.
- the indiscriminate arrests of Tamil civilians in Colombo and its suburbs and in the hill country.
- the indefinite detention of more than 600 Tamil youth in the Kalutara and Magazine prisons without any judicial process being initiated.
