Three persons were wounded when a group of gunmen fired with automatic riffles at the office of Ravi Karunanayake, a parliamentarian representing the United National Party (UNP) this morning said party sources. At least 42 rounds were fired at the office they added.
The attack on the Karunanayake's office took place hours before the nominations were closed for the forthcoming presidential election. He has blamed the PA activists for the attack. On Sunday a 17 year old school boy was killed and at least 42 persons were wounded in a grenade attack during a UNP rally in Epawelle. The UNP has blamed the PA supporters for that attack. The President, Chandrika Kumaratunge, and UNP leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, are among the thirteen candidates contesting the elections.
