Election violence reported

Twenty-six incidents of violence, related to next months presidential election, have been reported after the election was called on 20 October, the police said.
The police said the UNP has filed 14 complaints, while the JVP and PA have filed 6 and 4 respectively. Independent candidates made two complaints, they added. This morning the Commissioner of Elections met two representatives of each candidate and he is expected to meet the candidates shortly, sources at the Commissioner's office said. Meanwhile an electric transformer was blasted in Pettah, a business suburb of the capital Colombo this morning the police said. Power supply has been disrupted due to the blast sources said. The police cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation. However it is not known if any arrests were made, the sources added.
