Shell kills three

Hospital sources in Vavuniya said three civilians were killed and five wounded when a shell hit Kovilpuliyankulam, 4 km. north of Poovarasankulam around 5.30 a.m. this morning. Poovarasankulam is about 16 km from Vavuniya on the Mannar road.
Kanthasamy Vasantha,20, her sister, Kanthasamy Perananthaselvi,22 and Vasantharasa were named as the dead.
Varathalojini,18, (sister of Vasantharasa), Sinnathamby Kanthasamy,50, (father of the sisters killed), his son, Kanthasamy Kanakalingam,30, Murukaiah,55, Jeyaseelan,10 were wounded. They have been brought to the Vaviniya hospital, the sources added.
Yesterday evening three civilians, including a child, were reported killed when a shell hit Thonikkal, on the outskirt of Vavuniya town.
Hospital sources named them as:Vijayaranee (30), her daughter, Gajenthini (1 1/2) and Hemalatha.
Sources in Vavuniya said residents of Thonikkal, Vairavapuliyankulam have moved to Komarasankulam,Rasenthrakulam, Muruganoor, Samalakulam and Rambaikulam, adjoining villagesof Vavuniya town.
Some have also sought refuge at the Antony's Church at Rambaikulam, sources said.
