The All Ceylon Tamil Teachers' Union (CTTU) has appealed to all students, teachers and principals in the north-east province to observe December 1st (Wednesday) as a day of mourning, in rememberance of those innocent civilians killed in the recent attack on the Madhu church.
CTTU also urged the students to request the government not to conduct aerial and artillery attacks on places of worship, schools, hospitals and residential areas, in future. In a press release, Mr.T.Mahasivam, General Secretary of the CTTU, requested students, teachers and principals to attend schools in the north-east province, as usual on December 1 with black bands pinned on their shirts. Mr.Mahasivam also announced that CTTU will launch a three-day compaign starting on December 1st to collect clothes and money for the displaced people, who has sought refuge in Madhu church. Students have been asked to collect clothes and money from their neighbours and hand them over to the principals of respective schools. The CTTU would take those items to Madhu and distribute them to the refugees, he added.
