Three SLA soldiers killed in ambush

Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed when the Liberation Tigers ambushed a foot patrol, near the Navalady junction, along the Batticaloa-Colombo highway, around 9.30 a.m. this morning said sources.

The sources said the soldiers were attacked at the 21st mile post, about 200 metres from the SLA camp at the Navalady junction, and added that the Tigers have taken away the weapons from the soldiers.

A university student was wounded when the SLA soldiers retaliated by firing at a bus the sources said.

The student, G.Balachandran,25, who sustained injuries on his face, was rushed to the Valaichenai hospital, the sources said. He was later transferred to the Batticaloa hospital.

All transport on the Batticaloa-Colombo highway was disrupted for few hours, the sources said.
