ICRC to assist Jaffna exam process
[TamilNet, Sunday, 07 December 1997, 23:59 GMT]
The Dept. of Education in Jaffna has made arrangements for GCE. O.L students who had sent in their application from the Vanni, Colombo and some other parts of the island where they had been displaced at that time, to sit for the exam this month in Jaffna.
Dept. officials said today that because several GCE O.L students who had applied for the exam from elsewhere in March have returned to their respective schools in the peninsula, a decision was taken to issue them special admission cards to enable them sit the exam. Otherwise these children will have to face a lot of red tape which might even preclude them from sitting the exam they said. The exam begins on Thursday Dec. 11. The first lot of question papers arrived in Jaffna yesterday from Colombo. Due to the prevailing security situation in the peninsula, the distribution of the question papers to examination centres in Waligamam and in Vadamaradchi east will be handled by the ICRC said dept. officials.
