House boat washes ashore

A houseboat built of bamboo, washed ashore at Maamunai in Vadamaradchi East of the Jaffna Peninsula around 4 p.m. yesterday residents said. The house was damaged by gun fire, and there were blood stains on it they said.

'Burma' was written on the house. The house had pots, pans and fishing gear in it.

The house could have drifted from Burma and inmates might have been killed the villagers said.

Meanwhile two Sri Lanka Army soldiers were wounded in a clash with the Liberation Tiger at Thiriyai in the Vadamaradchi around 6.30 p.m. yesterday. It was not known if the Tigers had suffered any casualties, sources said.
