Cabinet minister leads protest against Jaffna officials

An estimated 1500 activists participated in a protest at Lipton Circus in Colombo Tuesday, organised by pro Government trade unions. The picketing was led by cabinet minister Alavi Moulana.

The demonstration was organised to protest against the recent attempt to assassinate the President Kumaratunga, the activists said.

The demonstrators, among the other things, called for the removal of the Director of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Government Agent and the Additional Government Agent for the Jaffna District, and said the Jaffna GA is acting against the interest of the Government.

They also said some government officials have worked against the President Kumaratunga during the presidential election.
