Resettlement, a distant dream to refugees

1007 refugee families are still staying in 13 welfare centers in Trincomalee district without any prospect of being resettled in their own villages, authoritative sources said.

The welfare centers are located at Trincomalee town (07), Morawewa (03), Kinniya (02) and Kantale (01).

A further 3343 refugee families live outside the welfare centres, with their relatives and friends drawing free dry ration as relief, sources said.

In Trincomalee Town and Gravets division alone 1810 displaced families live with their friends and relations. The number of refugee families staying with their relatives and friends in other divisions are:

Kinniya - 487, Seruvila - 421 ,Kuchchaveli - 246, Tampalakamam - 241, Mutur - 187, Kanthalai - 51.
