Shot youth tried to grab weapon: SLA

The Sri Lankan army handed over to the Jaffna hospital the body of a youth this afternoon claiming that it belonged to a member of the Liberation Tigers. The identity of the youth has not been established.

The Sri Lankan Police in Jaffna said that another member of the LTTE who had escaped in the shoot out at Vannarpannai last night around 9.15 p.m. was seriously wounded and could not have survived for more than a day.

The MoD communique released this morning said

"Troops on patrol shot dead a terrorist who attempted to grab a weapon from a soldier. Troops recovered the dead body of the terrorist along with a pistol".
