Retaliation for SLN death

Sri Lankan security forces burnt down 8 houses belonging to Tamil civilians in Salli, in the Trincomalee District, in retaliation for an attack on the Sri Lanka Navy personnel last night, villagers said.

They said the troops sealed off the village and conducted a search operation in the area following the attack, in which a Sri Lanka Navy officer was killed and two others were wounded.

A witness said several security personnel forcibly entered houses in the area and caused severe damage to properties.

They burned down about eight houses and assaulted several villagers, the witness said.
