Six Tamils arrested over Friday attack

Six Tamils have been arrested in Colombo by the investigations arm of the Sri Lankan Police in connection with the suicide attack by a commando group suspected to be of the Liberation Tigers on the main route to the Parliament on Friday, March 10.

The director of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Police, Mr. Bandula (Show) Wickremesinghe said today that his section has arrested these persons in Dehiwela, a suburb in the capital's southern sector, and in Pettah in downtown Colombo. The suspects are all Tamils from the island's north he said.

Meanwhile, Police sources claimed that they are still looking for another group of Liberation Tigers who may have escaped from the scene of attack in Rajagiriya on Friday evening. They said that two vehicles from the spot have been reported missing following the fire-fight between the Tigers and the Special Task Force commandos in Rajagiriya on Friday.

"It is probable that the Tigers who escaped may have taken away the vehicle" one of them said. However, senior investigating officials of the Police refused to comment on the other members of the LTTE attack group who may, according to other Police sources, have got away in the melee on Friday.
