UNP to talk despite accusations

The General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) said that the UNP would participate in second round of talks scheduled for tomorrow with the Government despite allegations made by President Chandrika that the main opposition party was working hand in glove with the LTTE.

Mr. Gamini Atukorale, General Secretary of the UNP, said that President Chandrika's interview to a weekly journal, in which she accused the UNP and the LTTE of working on a common agenda, would certainly affect the ongoing talks between the government and the main opposition party to reach a consensus to the national problem.

However, he added that his party would continue to contribute its share to find a consensus in reaching a political settlement to the national issue.
