Six policemen were killed and 12 others were wounded in a claymore attack on a military convoy at Mylambaveli, 7 km. north of Batticaloa, around 12.40 p.m. today.
A bus in which police personnel were travelling in was hit by the claymore. The convoy to Polonnaruwa left Batticaloa around 12 noon said sources. In a similar incident last month, 15 policemen were killed when a convoy of buses carrying soldiers and policemen returning to duty in Batticaloa was attacked at Miyaan Kulam, 15 km. north-east of Valaichenai. In a separate incident, the Liberation Tigers snipped and killed a policeman at Pachchanoor, 5 km. south of Muttur Town in Trincomalee district, security sources said. Pachchnoor village is on the Muttur-Killiveddi road. The Tigers fired at two police personnel from Pachchanoor camp who had gone to down stream to have a bath, killing one of them. His body was brought to Trincomalee by sea, the sources said.
