Transparency with new constitution - Peiris

Professor G.L. Peiris, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs promised that the implementation of the proposed new constitution would be "above board."

He further added that nothing would be done secretly. The Minister gave this assurance to the Mahanayaka Theras of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters today morning at Kandy.

According to the State-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation's night news bulletin, the Minister had promised the two Mahanayaka Theras that the proposed new constitution will be debated in Parliament and the public will be given the opportunity to express their views regarding it.

Professor Peiris had told the Mahanayaka Theras that the government would try to obtain the advice of the Maha Sangha to establish a righteous society in the country.
