Grenade attack in Jaffna

The Liberation Tigers threw a grenade at a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry post at Aariyakulam junction in the high security zone of the Jaffna town around 9.30 a.m. today. No damages were caused by the explosion, SLA sources said.

The SLA conducted a search operation in the area following the attack. It is not known if any arrests were made.

SLA's 51-2 Brigade Head Quarters and 52 Div. Head Quarters, situated at the Gnanam Hotel building and Subash Hotel respectively, are within 200 metres range from the Aariyakulam junction.

EPDP has also its main office at Sreethar Theatre which is about 100 metres from the Aariyakulam junction.
