Four Tigers killed -SLA

Sri Lanka Army sources said four Liberation Tigers were killed in an ambush at Murunkan 18 kilometres south east of Mannar town around 5.40 p.m. Sunday evening.

The sources said troops lying in ambush observed movements of the Tigers ahead of their forward defence lines. The troops opened fire, killing four and wounding others.

SLA sources said that 2 T-56 assault rifles and 5 grenades were recovered during a subsequent search in the area.

The Liberation Tigers have not yet commented on the SLA's claim.

Meanwhile, security measures has been tightened in the Trincomalee town following an attack by Liberation Tigers on a police post near railway station around 11 p.m. last night said sources.

Defence sources said the Tigers used Tomba guns to attack the police post. They said damages were caused to bunkers and buildings, but the police did not suffer any casualties, the sources said.
