Ex-PLOTE cadre shot dead

A former member of People's Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Nadarasa Velan or Lavan (19) was shot and killed yesterday night by gunmen alleged to be from the Liberation Tigers, in Kommathurai, Batticaloa, sources said.
Kommathurai is situated 20km north of Batticaloa town. A Sri Lankan Army (SLA) camp and camps of other para-military groups are located around the area. Lavan after working for the PLOTE for sometime, left the organization, got married and was leading a normal life. It is alleged that he had renewed contacts with para-military organizations recently, and have started providing intelligence information to the SLA. After leaving his house in Uma Mill Road to buy groceries Saturday night he failed to return home, sources said. His body was found near the railway crossing in Colony Lane this morning. The body was taken to Eravur Hospital for medical examination and was later returned to his relatives.
