One killed and five wounded in attacks

Three military trained Policemen were wounded in the high security zone of Trincomalee town Tuesday night around 8.40 p.m. when a grenade was lobbed at their checkpoint by persons suspected to be Liberation Tigers. Meanwhile, a military trained Policeman was killed and two were wounded in another attack Monday night by the LTTE on a bunker at Poolavady near the border between the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
In Trincomalee, the Police and army cordoned off searched the Sivankoilady area soon after the incident. Residents of this suburb said that the Police personnel on duty in other posts and checkpoints of the town had fired in the air for more than 10 minutes as civilians who were on the roads ran for cover. The Sri Lanka army searched the Poolavady village this morning sources said.
