Detained student admitted to hospital

A GCE A/L student from Muttur has been detained at the Trincomalee Police Headquarters since last month. While being interrogated by the Police during this period he has been admitted twice to Trincomalee base hospital for medical treatment for injuries inflicted on him, relatives said.
Nagaraja Vamanaeswaran is a student of the Pallikudiruppu Kalaimagal Hindu Maha Vidyalayam in the Tiger-controlled area in the Muttur electorate. He is a final year GCE A/L student who has applied to sit for this examination in July this year. Nagarajah Vamanaeswaram was arrested by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) personnel at Kaddaiparichchan army camp nearly a month ago when was on his way to Muttur town with his sister to buy provisions. He was then detained at Trincomalee Police Headquarters for questioning. During that time he was admitted to the Trincomalee base hospital for treatment for his injuries. Thereafter he had been detained at the Uppuveli Police Station for questioning. Now he is warded at the Trincomalee base hospital for the second time to be treated for his injuries, sources said. Altogether six people from Muttur area are now detained at the Trincomalee Police Headquarters. They are: Sivapragasam Ravirajan, Chandragnanasundaram Mathivathanan, Rasaretnam Visvanathan, Navaneethan, Ganeshapillai Vimaladevi and Nagarasa Vamanaeswaram (now warded in the Trincomalee base hospital). Miss Ganeshapillai Vimaladevi had been working as a typist at Chenaiyoor Madhya Maha Vidyalayam in the Muttur area at the time of her arrest. Chenaiyoor is a village in the Tiger-controlled area. The Police arrested her when she came to Muttur town, which is under the control of the SLA, on suspicion that she helped the LTTE by typing letters for them.
