Jaffna secretariat strikes over assault

Officials and employees attached to the Jaffna Secretariat (Kachcheri) went on strike from 9 to 10.30 Thursday morning protesting against an alleged assault on some of them by Sri Lanka Army soldiers, earlier Thursday.

Sources at the Kachcheri said some of the employees who had reported to work Thursday morning were assaulted by members of the security forces for no reasons

Thereafter all employees and officials went on strike, demanding an immediate inquiry into this incident

Major Manjula of the 512 Brigade of the SLA stationed in Jaffna town and the Additional Government Agent T.Vaithilingam rushed to the Secretariat and promised the strikers that an inquiry would be conducted into this incident.

They successfully persuaded the staff of the Jaffna Secretariat to resume work, the TamilNet correspondent in Jaffna said.
