78100 Palmyrah saplings planted in Vanni

The Palmyrah Development board and the TEEDOR, the economic research and planning arm of the Liberation Tigers, together have planted 78100 Palmyrah saplings in the Vanni this year said officials in the Board this week.

This was done as part of the project to plant 20 million Palmyrah trees by the year 2000 they said.

The saplings were planted in Pooneryn, Karachchi and Kandawalai. Fifty five thousand saplings for planting next year have been raised in seedbeds in these areas said the officials.
