Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) would extend only conditional support to the People's Alliance (PA) after the general election, said Rauff Hakeem, the Co-leader of SLMC at a reception accorded to him at Nintavur in Ampara district on Friday night.
Hakeem said that PA should agree to meet the following conditions to gain the support of SLMC: - 1. Before the election of the Speaker of the new parliament is held, the government should issue a gazette notification announcing the establishment of a new administrative district in the eastern province. It should be named Ampara Maritime District.
- 2. The construction work on the proposed Oluvil harbor inaugurated by the late leader Mr.M.H.M.Ashraff should be completed without delay.
- 3. The political solution forwarded to solve the ethnic problem should incorporate the South-East Provincial Council, a concept mooted by the late leader Mr.Ashraff.
Attorney-at-Law Mr.S.Muthumeeran presided the reception.
