Settlements hit by air strikes, civilians tortured

Reports from the Vanni said this evening that Kfir jets of the SLAF bombed the Mankulam area this morning, inflicting heavy damage on some civilian settlements there. No details of the casualties were known.
Meanwhile, three civilians who went to see their homesteads in Nedunkerni yesterday were captured and tortured by the Sri Lankan army which is operating in the area in small groups now. The civilians, identified as Sadaiyan Ananthan, C. Suprapatham and Sivapatham were beaten up and held in a rivulet until they choked, by the SLA soldiers who captured them said their relatives. The army confiscated their bicycles and let them go later in the day. The residents of Nedunkerni and surrounding areas fled the region when the Sri Lankan army moved into the area in May this year.
