Seven killed in mine blast

Seven passengers were killed and 24 others were wounded when a bus in which they were travelling was hit by a land mine in the Anuradhapura district around 6.30 a.m. Tuesday, police sources said.

The police said the mine was set off by the Liberation Tigers. The Tigers have not commented on the incident.

The privately-owned bus was on its way to Kebitipolle from Padawisiripura. The wounded were rushed to Anuradhapura hospital, and some seriously wounded were later transported to Colombo, the sources said.
