Five STF commandos killed

Five Special Task Force elite troops were killed and another wounded in an attack by the Liberation Tigers near Thirukkovil about 25 km. south-east of Ampara around 8 a.m. Saturday. An armoured vehicle was damaged when the Tigers attacked reinforcements that were rushed to the area from Thirukkovil camp, sources said.

Military sources said the STF troops from Kangirankudha camp were on their way to guard duty at Supathaanveli bridge about one km. from Thriukkovil when they were attacked.

A young farmer identified as Mylvakanam Chandrakumar,24, was killed in retaliatory shelling by the STF troops following the attack.
