Policeman shot dead

A police constable was shot dead by an unidentified armed youth, believed to be a member of the Liberation Tigers at Valaichenai, 32 km. north of Batticaloa, around 7.30 a.m. Friday. The incident occurred about 100 metres from the Valaichenai police station.

The police man was shot dead while he was on his way to duty at the Valaichenai police station. He was identified as M.A.Musthafa, 32.

Sri Lanka Army soldiers and police conducted a joint search operation in the villages of Ottamaavadai and Maavadichenai. No one was arrested, police sources said.
