Three Sri Lanka Army soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in a claymore mine attack in the Omanthai area, about 14 km. north of Vavuniya Thursday morning, military sources said. They said the claymore was placed on a tree near a sentry post.
The Liberation Tigers reportedly triggered the claymore, targeting the troops who were patrolling ahead of their defence positions. The wounded were admitted at the Anuradhapura military hospital, according to the sources. The Voice of Tigers radio said this evening that a SLA sentry post was completely destroyed in the attack. The Tigers recovered some arms and ammunition, including 5 assault riffles, the radio said. In a separate attack, a SLA soldier was killed in Iranai-illupailkulam, military sources said. Iranai-illuppailkulam is about 21 km. northwest of Vavuniya town. Meanwhile a member of the LTTE's boarder force died in a confrontation with the Sri Lanka Army soldiers at Mullikulam on Wednesday, the VoT radio said. Another LTTE member died in an accidental explosion at Nakarkovil in the Vadamaradchi East sector of the Jaffna peninsula, Thursday, the radio added.
