Eleven policemen killed in Mutur attack

Eleven military trained police personnel were killed, and 11 policemen and three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were wounded in an attack by the Liberation Tigers in Mutur, south of Trincomalee, around 2.p.m. Thursday, security sources said.

Four civilians were also wounded in the ensuing fire-fight. The wounded civilians, policemen and SLA soldiers have been admitted at the Trincomalee base hospital, medical sources said.

The Tigers attacked a combined police and army check post at 64th mile, 3 km. south of Mutur town, police sources in Mutur said.

Army reinforcement have rushed to the area and conducting a search operation, the sources added.
