The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Monday reopened its office in Mutur town, south of Trincomalee, according to a press release issued by the organisation. The Mutur office was closed down in September last after unidentified men attacked it with grenades, damaging the office building and a vehicle.
The press release said, "with the re-opening, the ICRC will be able to fully resume its activities in the Mutur area ( Mutur, Seruvila, Ichchilampattai divisions)." "The Mobile Health Team operating out of Muttur will be able to extend its services to the population in remote areas with no access to medical facilities. Protection of the civilian population of all ethnic groups will again be carried out on a larger scale. All other activities that the ICRC carries out under its humanitarian mandate will also resume fully", the press release further said.
