The United National Front government Wednesday announced that the restriction on transfer of medicines and equipment to "uncleared areas (that are not under the control of State armed forces) has been lifted. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) Wednesday said in a press release that "it has decided to do away with the restrictions on transfer of medicines and equipment with immediate effect."
"Accordingly, no control will be placed on the quantity or the brand. However, stocks of medicines and equipment thus transported will be monitored at the checkpoints for security reasons," the MoD's press release said. The UNF government last Monday relaxed restrictions on travel to Jaffna from other parts of the country. The MOD in a press release said "no approval would be required for Sri Lankan citizens travelling to Jaffna."However, the MoD required Sri Lanka citizens to prove their identities at the point of embarkation when they travel by air or ship at security force/checkpoints established by the Government.
