Thamileelam Police celebrates decade of service

The Police Service of Thamil Eelam, which is responsible for maintaining law and order in the regions held by the Liberation Tigers, celebrated the tenth year of its founding in Puthukudiyiruppu Saturday, according to a press note issued by the Tamileelam News and Information Service.

The Leader of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Velupillai Pirapaharan, was the guest of honour at the celebrations. The constables and officers of the Police Service of Thamil Eelam are drawn entirely from civilians. The service functions in accordance with the civil and penal procedure codes of the LTTE's judicial division.

Addressing the guests and members of the service at the function, Mr. Pirapaharan said, "The Thamil Eelam Police Force has performed exceptionally well for a decade with meagre resources. It has been built as a disciplined and efficient service. It should be developed into one that us equal to the best Police forces in the world with modern facilities."

The leader of the Liberation Tigers inspected the guard of honour with Mr. P. Nadesan, who is the head of the Thamil Eelam Police Service.

"The moral fabric of a society is rent asunder by constant war that is unleashed on it by an oppressive state. One of the chief aims of wars and counter insurgency operations against nations struggling for their freedom is to break the people's will by making their society collapse into crime and moral degeneration. We have witnessed this in many parts of the world recently where the struggles of several oppressed nations have been crushed. The Tamil society did not collapse into disorder despite the extreme conditions of war and the decade long economic embargo imposed on us by Sri Lanka. We have held together amidst great adversity and we have grown stronger in our determination to struggle as an indivisible society. The Thamil Eelam Police Service has contributed to this immensely", said a senior member of the Liberation Tigers who was present at the celebrations.
