Abducted Akkaraipattu Muslim youth returns home, police interrogate

Akkaraipattu police Friday morning arrested S.M.Abdul Wajeed (24), the Muslim youth who was reported abducted, at his home. He was immediately taken to the Akkaraipattu police station for interrogation.
The interrogation is now going on at the police station, where Amparai district parliamentarian and Health Minister Mr.P.Dayaratne and TNA parliamentarian Mr. Chandra Nehru are present attending a conference, police sources said. Following lifting of curfew Friday morning at 6 a.m., neighbours noted the abducted youth Wajeed at his home and informed the local LTTE officials. Later, on request made by Ampara TNA parliamentarian Mr. Chandra Nehru, a Police team rushed to the house and arrested him. The youth is now being interrogated at the Akkaraipattu police station. Minister Jayaratne and TNA MP Mr. Chandra Nehru are also in the police station attending a conference, the sources said. The sources said that top police officials arrived Akkaraipattu by helicopter Friday morning are also attending the conference. Meanwhile the two-day ‘hartal’ (general shut down) was called off Friday in Akkaraipattu following an appeal by the Federation of Mosques.
