Trinco DCC reviews resettling displaced

Each displaced family is to be given one hundred thousand rupees as resettlement package under the rehabilitation programme which is to be implemented shortly, it was announced at the meeting of the Trincomalee District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) held Monday.
Divisional secretaries in the district should collect details of the displaced in their respective areas and submit to the authorities concerned to disburse the relief package as the resettlement programme is expected to be implemented from January next year, Project Director of the Trincomalee district secretariat Mr.N.Puhendran said at the DCC meeting Monday. Trincomalee district Sri Lanka Muslim Congress parliamentarian and Chairman of the DCC Mr.K.M.Thowfeek presided. Two National List parliamentarians Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham (Tamil National Alliance-TNA) and Mr.P.Chandrasekaram (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna-JVP) participated. Trincomalee district parliamentarians Mr.R.Sampanthan (TNA), Mr.M.A.M.Maharoof (United National Party) and Mr.M.S.M.Thowfeek (Sri Lanka Muslim Congress) were not present. The District Government Agent Mr.N.H.K.Nelumdeniya made the welcome speech.

Project Director Mr.Puhendran told the divisional secretaries to prepare lists of displaced staying at twelve refugee camps and welfare centres and who live with relatives and friends in the district. "We are expected to receive more money from various sources to resettle the displaced from January next year. We must get ourselves armed with necessary data to meet the challenge of resettling the displaced in their villages," said Mr.Puhendran. The authorities have decided to give one hundred thousand rupees each to a displaced family under a resettlement package .Of this money, seventy five thousand rupees would be given for constructing house. The balance money is to be used for other expenses incurred in the resettling process, said Mr.Puhendran.
