Trinco observes Major Ganesh's sixteenth death anniversary

The sixteenth death anniversary of Major Ganesh, a commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was observed in Trincomalee district Tuesday. Major Ganesh hailed from Kantalai, a traditional Tamil village that has now become a Sinhala dominated town in the Trincomalee district following systematic state aided colonization schemes under successive governments.

Major Ganesh died in a battle with the Sri Lanka Army at 64th milepost area in Muttur east on 5 November 1986.

At the function held in Trincomalee town LTTE political office Mr. Tilak, Trincomalee district political head of the LTTE, lit the flame of sacrifice. Mr. Rajesh, Trincomalee town political head hoisted the Tamil Eelam National Flag. Mr.Uthayapalan, LTTE activist lit the flame of sacrifice to the portrait of Major Ganesh. Mr.S.Sriskandarajah, President of the Progressive Peace Front garlanded the photograph of Major Ganesh. Mr.S.Kumaragurparan presided.

LTTE activist Kunchan lit the flame of sacrifice at the monument of Major Ganesh erected at Chenaiyoor in the Muttur east. The LTTE political head of the Tampalakamam division Mr.Thangan hoisted the Tamil Eelam National Flag. The photograph of Major Ganesh was garlanded by his brother. Mr.Thangan and Ms Kaaronja, head of the LTTE Trincomalee district student division spoke.

Challenge cups were presented to the champion and runner-up teams of the cricket tournament conducted in the memory of LTTE commander Major Ganesh. Thirty teams including Muslim sports teams participated in the tournament. Sallaiyoor Sivasakthi Sports Club became the champion in the tournament beating the Muttur St. Anthony's team.
