The Sri Lanka Army Wednesday refused permission for ten displaced families who returned from Vanni region to resettle at Koddady in Point Pedro in Jaffna district. These families left the area in 1996 following military operation by the SLA.
The SLA authorities told the families that they could not be allowed to resettle in Koddady village as it comes under the high security zone, sources said. Meanwhile about thirty-six families who did not leave the Koddady area in 1996 military operations still live there. "Why we are not allowed to resettle in our village when the SLA authorities allow these families to continue to live at Koddady," one of the Vanni returnees asked. Vanni returnees have complained to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission against the army refusal, sources said.
