Jaffna Magistrate remands Indian fishermen[TamilNet, Friday, 31 January 2003, 01:49 GMT]The Mallakam Magistrate in Jaffna district Thursday ordered remand for ten South Indian fishermen from Nagapatinam who strayed into the high security zone (HSZ) in the northern territorial water of Sri Lanka and were arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Wednesday night, sources said. Sri Lanka Navy handed the arrested fishermen to the Kankesanthurai Police after preliminary investigations. The Police produced the suspect fishermen in Mallakam Magistrate's Court Thursday morning The Magistrate, Ms Sarojini Ilangovan, further ordered the two trawlers and fishing gear of the ten fishermen to be kept in the custody of the SLN at Kankesanthurai port, court sources said.
