NECORD allocates more money to NE education development

The North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) funded by the Asian Development Bank has already spent six hundred million rupees for the educational development of the eight districts in the northeast province and also it is prepared to spend another one thousand million rupees, NECORD Project Director Mr.T.Lankaneson said Thursday.

Trincomalee MP Mr.R.Sampanthan,Mr.S.Puhendran of NECORD,TNA MP Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham, Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Mahalingam, Provincial Secretary of Education Mr.R.Thiagalingam and Methodist College Principal Ms Urohini Jothinathan are at the site of laying foundation.

Mr.Lankaneson said this when speaking at the foundation-laying event for a two storied girls' hostel at the Trincomalee Methodist Girls' College at a cost of 5.59 million rupees.

The hostel is to provide accommodation to Tamil students from remote areas in the Trincomalee district. Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan laid the foundation for this project Thursday.

The is the first time the ADB funded NECORD has provided money for a school in the northeast province to construct girls' hostel to give accommodation to students who come from poor families, Mr.Lankaneson said.

Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan said "anti-peace forces know that Tamils are to get a fair political solution through peace talks. Such elements are now trying to sabotage the peace process in order to deprive the Tamils from getting a fair and lasting political solution to their problems. We should not allow such elements to succeed in their attempts. We should take steps to rebuild the devastated northeast."

Mrs. Urohini Jothinathan, Principal of the College made the welcome address. NE Provincial Education Ministry Secretary Mr.R.Thiagalaingam also spoke. Provincial Director of Education Mt.S.Mahalingam and Zonal Director of Education Mr.K.Thilakaretnam were present.
