Weapons in Nimalarajan murder case sent to govt. analyst

The Jaffna Magistrate, Mr.R.T.Viknarajah, hearing the case of the murder of the journalist Nimalarajan, Tuesday allowed an application made by the Police to forward the five 9 m.m. pistols with several rounds of live bullets, which had been recovered by the Sri Lanka Army from the paramilitary Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP), to the Government Analyst for analysis and report.

The Officer in charge of Special Crimes of the Jaffna Police, Mr.Ranjith de Silva, having produced in court the five pistols with live bullets handed over to the Police by the SLA, made this application Tuesday when the murder case was taken up for inquiry, legal sources said.

The Police further said in its application that the spent bullets collected at the scene of the crime and now in the custody of the court should also be sent to the Government Analyst for his analysis and report.

The OIC, Crimes, Jaffna Police, informed court that the Government Analyst should be asked to report that whether the live bullets recovered from the EPDP with the five 9 m.m. pistols by the SLA and the spent bullets collected at the scene of crime are of the same category.

Allowing the application, the Magistrate further directed the Police to furnish court all documents pertaining to the recovery of pistols and live bullets by the SLA from the EPDP. He further instructed the Police that the report of the Government Analyst should be submitted to court on March 27, legal sources said.
