NEPC donates relief materials to South disaster victims

The North East Provincial Council Governor (retired) Major General Asoka Jayawardene is to hand over about three million rupees worth of dry ration, milk foods, clothes and other essential items to the Minister of Local Authorities and Provincial Councils Mr.Alick Aluwihare Monday morning to be
distributed among victims of flood and landslides in the south of the country, sources said.
The ceremonial handing over is to take place at the ministry office Monday
morning around 10, NEPC sources said. The relief materials have been collected in the eight districts of the
northeast province by provincial ministries, departments and divisional
secretariats, sources said. Several lorries with relief materials left
Sunday morning to Colombo from capital towns of the districts, sources
said. The NE Provincial Department of Social Welfare is in the charge of
the collection of relief materials and its distribution in the south,
sources said.
