The Assistant High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commission for
Refugees
(UNHCR) Mr.Kamel Morjane is to begin his three-day field trip to Sri Lanka
Wednesday,
UNHCR sources said.
"His visit is to see first hand what is the situation of remaining
displaced and of those who have returned to resettle in their former homes in the past
seventeen months," a UNHCR official said. Mr Morjane works in the UNHCR headquarters in Geneva. His three-day visit
to Sri Lanka comes as a prelude to Tokyo donors' conference, sources said. Mr. Morjane will be visiting the northeast
and on his return to Colombo, he has agreed to provide a debriefing to
donors, UN agencies and NGOs on his field trip. At the same time he would
hear the views of these agencies on facilitating solutions for those
refugees and internally displaced who remain displaced, said a UNHCR official. The debriefing would be held at Colombo Earls Court in Tran Asia Hotel on June 6 evening, sources said.
