EPDP releases PLOTE cadres

The Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) released this morning the three cadres of the Peoples' Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) whom they had abducted on Wednesday night from Velanai, an island off the Jaffna Peninsula, said sources in Jaffna.

The abductees were handed over to the PLOTE at the Jaffna police station.

Abduction and counter-abduction of cadres by the PLOTE and EPDP came to a head on Wednesday, when an armed confrontation took place between the two groups in Jaffna town.

The cadres of the EPDP were injured and their motorbikes were damaged in this incident.

Following this, top officials of the Sri Lanka Army called up both parties and warned them against such behaviour in the future.
