Sri Lanka’s main opposition People’s Alliance (PA) led by President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge Tuesday said ninety percent of aid pledged at the Tokyo donors' conference are loans and not grants. "Majority of the aid given at the donors' conference are on various interest rates with several conditions attached," said People’s Alliance media spokesman Mr.Sarath Amunugama at a press briefing held Tuesday at the office of the Leader of the Opposition.
PA parliamentarian Mr.Sarath Amunugama further said loans pledged at the donors' conference would have to be repaid by the government. The take over of the Development Lotteries Board (DLB) by President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge would not hinder the present peace process, said Mr.Amunugama in reply to a comment made recently by the senior vice president of the Tamil United Liberation Front Mr.Joseph Pararajasingham. Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Mr.Parajasingham recently in an interview said the DLB take over would hinder the progress of the peace talks.
