Northeast art exhibition held in Trincomalee

More than five hundred pieces of art work by artistss from the eight districts in the Northeast province were
displayed at a two day art exhibition held in Trincomalee St.Joseph's College auditorium on Saturday and Sunday, education officials in Trincomalee said. The exhibition was declared open by the provincial education ministry secretary Mr.R.Thiagalingam Saturday morning.
Provincial Governor's Secretary Mr.S. Amirthalingam was the chief guest and Provincial Director for Cultural Affairs Mr.C.A.Mohan Raas was the guest of
honour.

To mark the occasion Provincial Education Ministry Secretary Mr. Thiagalingam released the first issue of magazine "Thoorihai" (Brush). The first copy of the magazine was handed over to him by
Mr. Mohan Rass.
 Students undergoing four-year course in Art and Design in the Jaffna University were personally present and exhibited their works. The visiting lecturer of the Fine Arts Faculty in the Jaffna University Mr.S.Sivaprakasam also attended the exhibition, sources said
 A seminar was also held on the first day of exhibition presided by Ms N.Sri Devi, Assistant Director of Cultural Affairs. Later provincial artists met for a social evening and decided to form an association. A five-member committee has been appointed to formulate a constitution for
the association, sources said.
