LTTE complains of SLA ceasefire violation in Trincomalee
[TamilNet, Thursday, 26 June 2003, 11:42 GMT]
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) made a complaint to the head of
the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Trincomalee that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has
violated the ceasefire agreement by attempting to enter Kurankupanchchan
area, which is in under LTTE's control, LTTE Trincomalee district political
head Mr.S.Tilak told Tamilnet Thursday.
Kurankupanchan area is about four km off west of Kinniya which is located
about 16 km off Trincomalee, sources said Mr Tilak said LTTE members had successfully stopped SLA soldiers from
entering the LTTE controlled Kurankupanchan area around noon Thursday. LTTE
cadres had warned SLA soldiers gathered at the site that they would use
force to stop them if they forcibly entered their area in the name of
conducting search operation violating the ceasefire agreement. According to Mr.Tilak, a group of about thirty army soldiers were still at
the site with arms. This is a clear case of violation of the ceasefire
agreement by the SLA, he said Meanwhile SLMM monitors in east port town rushed to the site Thursday
afternoon and have not yet returned to Trincomalee, SLMM sources said.
