Trincomalee club to assist under privileged women

"We have plans to create awareness among women about their fundamental rights under the Sri Lanka's constitution and their basic rights under the normal laws of the country and how to use them," said Ms Latha Thirkumaranathan in her inaugural address Saturday after being elected as
the Charter President of the Trincomalee Inner Wheel Club (IWC).

"Care for the Future" is the theme of the International Inner Wheel Club for the year 2003-2004
The event was held at the Welcombe Hotel, Orr's Hill, and Trincomalee Saturday night.
She further said, "Our club has plan with numerous service projects and activities for the year 2003-2004 to uplift the living condition of the under privileged in the district."
"We have plans to organize leadership training programme for women who have been affected by war. Our aim is to promote self-confidence and courage among the women to face the present challenges, to promote their
talents and make them leaders in their villages as participants in conflict resolution and to encourage them to get involved in self-employment activities," said Ms Latha Thirkumaranathan.

Special achievement award is being presented to Miss Jeyasuhasini Puvanendrarajah for excellence in athletics by Chairman Dr.( Ms ) Carmel Fernandopulle.

"Let us 'Care for the Future' and 'Make the Friendship Positive' to serve the community who need our services and to promote the lives of many who are helpless," said the President of the Trincomalee Inner Wheel
Club.
District Chairman of the Inner Wheel Club Dr (Mrs.) Carmel Fernandopulle announced the election of Ms Latha Thirkumaranathan as Charter President.
Miss Puvanendrararjah Jeyasuhasini was presented with Special Achievement Award for excelling in athlete in provincial and national level by the District Chairman of the Inner Wheel Club Dr. (Mrs.) Carmen Fernandopulle.
Miss Jeyasuhasini won the silver medal at the national heptathlon competition-2003 held in Colombo recently. She won gold medals in 100 meters, 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles at the North East Schools Athlete Meet in the year 2001 and 2002. She is the only female athlete in the
Trincomalee district who has won six gold medals at provincial level and a silver medal at national level in a three-year period, sports sources said.
She is an old girl of Trincomalee St Mary's Girls College and a resident of Anpuvallipuram, a suburb in Trincomalee town.
