Officials of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and Parliamentarians from Tamil National Alliance (TNA) met Wednesday night at the 'Cholai Aham' Guest House in LTTE controlled Kokkadicholai in Batticaloa district to review the current political situation and other matters related to the region's economic development, sources said.
Batticaloa-Amparai LTTE Deputy Military Commander, Ram, Head of the Political Wing of the LTTE, E. Kausalyan, and Deputy Head of the Political Wing, Kirushan, participated in the meeting on behalf of the LTTE. Batticaloa district parliamentarians Joseph Pararajasingham, G. Krishnapillai and E. Thangavadivel, and Amparai district parliamentarian A. Chandra Nehru participated on behalf of the TNA. The dangerous precedent being set by Sri Lanka Army's (SLA's) efforts to consolidate and expand the Kallady army camp was taken up for discussion. Matters related to improving the educational standards in Batticaloa Amparai districts and general economic development activities were also discussed in the meeting according to sources. Parliamentarians said that under no circumstances they will allow the Kallady camp to be made into a permanent SLA camp. "As representatives of Tamil people we will vehemently oppose any such efforts," the parliamentarians said.
