[TamilNet, Sunday, 06 July 2003, 17:39 GMT]
Veteran leftist leader and trade unionist Mr.Vasudeva Nanayakara Sunday said that an interim administration for the northeast province is urgently
needed to strengthen the environment of democracy. "We support the call by
the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for an effective interim
administrative structure for the northeast province," said Mr.Vasudeva
Nanayakkara addressing the twenty-fifth anniversary of the New Democratic
Front (NDF) held at Jaffna Multi Purpose Co-operative Society hall Sunday,
sources said.
Mr.Vasudeva Nanayakkara further said United States of America is working
against Tamil nationalism and instigating the Sinhala people against
finding solution to meet the aspirations of Tamil people, sources said. Only through negotiations a political solution to the national conflict
could be found and not through war as stressed by chauvinists in the
island, added Mr.Vasudeva Nanayakkara, sources said. NDF General SecretaryMr.C.K.Senthivel presided. "Unless Prime Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe and his
government work
honestly to find a political solution for the national conflict, the chance
to achieve a lasting peaceful solution is far away from us," said Mr.Senthivel. The NDF was founded in 1978 to work towards the liberation of
working class from imperialism, capitalism and chauvinism thereby ensuring
autonomy to all communities based on self-determination. NDF's main aim is
to defeat imperialism and regional hegemony and eliminate elements working
for these harmful forces inside the country, said NDF in a statement issued in
connection with its twenty fifth-anniversary celebration, sources said.
