TNA refutes allegations against its MPs

[TamilNet, Friday, 11 July 2003, 14:45 GMT]
Strongly denying accusations by some People's Alliance members, inside and outside parliament, that the Tamil National Alliance has entered into a secret pact with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the TNA’s parliamentary group leader, Mr. R.Sampanthan, said in Sri Lanka’s parliament Friday that the TNA is openly working with the LTTE to take the present peace process forward to find a negotiated political solution to the conflict in the Northeast through peaceful means, parliamentary sources said.

Mr.Sampanthan, speaking on a motion he moved in parliament with the permission of the Speaker, Mr.Joseph Michael Perera, said that all peace-loving citizens should be careful of elements that are bent on derailing the peace process.

“Allegations made against TNA parliamentarians that they are giving shelter and providing weapons supplied by the government to LTTE to train their cadres are without foundation and are intended to disrupt the peace process or to force the government to abandon the peace process,” said Mr.Sampanthan, and he challenged those who leveled the accusations to prove their allegations.

Mr. Sampanthan stressed that the TNA would continue to follow its democratic political vision in achieving peace and a lasting political solution to the conflict, the parliamentary sources said.
